Doha: The Embassy of Malaysia in Doha organised a flag-raising ceremony to mark Malaysia’s 69th Independence Day, which falls on August 31, 2026.

The event, held on the evening of Sunday, August 30, 2026, symbolically coincided with the early hours of Monday, August 31, 2026 in Malaysia.

The ceremony provided an opportunity for Malaysians in Qatar to come together in the spirit of patriotism, unity and national pride.

It was also streamed online, enabling members of the Malaysian community across Qatar to follow and participate in the celebration virtually.

The raising of the Jalur Gemilang, the Malaysian flag, symbolises the sovereignty, independence and shared identity of Malaysians, including those living and working overseas.

Ambassador of Malaysia to the State of Qatar H E Faizal Razali in his remarks mentioned, “The celebration is not only about remembering our history, but also about the values that continue to unite us as Malaysians. We hope this celebration will further strengthen our sense of togetherness and our friendship with Qatar.”

The Embassy, in cooperation with Malaysian Association in Qatar (MAQ) and the wider Malaysian community in Qatar, organised a series of programmes throughout August, and will continue the programmes in September to commemorate the Malaysian Independence Day and Malaysia Day.

The celebrations also provide an opportunity to highlight the close and longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Qatar, particularly through greater people-to-people interaction and community diplomacy.

The Embassy expressed hopes that Malaysians in Qatar will continue to uphold Malaysia’s good name, remain united and contribute positively to strengthening Malaysia-Qatar relations.

The Embassy also wished to convey its appreciation to Malaysian Association in Qatar, community members and friends in Qatar for their continued cooperation and support in organising the National Day and Malaysia Day activities.
