Washington: US President Donald Trump announced Sunday that an American delegation will head Monday to Islamabad, Pakistan, to begin a new round of negotiations with representatives of Iran, with the aim of reaching a peace agreement.

Trump said via his Truth Social account: “My Representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan - They will be there tomorrow evening, for Negotiations.”

The US president has described Iran's efforts to close the Strait of Hormuz as "strange" because the US blockade "has already closed it".

The United States and Iran recently agreed in Islamabad to a two-week ceasefire, but the talks did not lead to any significant progress, so the US president ordered a blockade of Iranian ports to increase pressure on Tehran.
