Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s beach volleyball stars Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan advanced to the Round of 16 at the Ostrava Elite16 in the Czech Republic after recording their second victory of the tournament yesterday.
The Tokyo Olympic bronze medalists defeated France’s Elouan Chouikh and Joadel Genevieve-Gardoque in straight sets, 21-15, 21-17, in their final Pool B match to secure a place in the knockout stage of the Beach Pro Tour event.
Earlier in the day, the Qatari duo suffered a narrow three-set loss to Americans Taylor Crabb and Andrew Benesh. Younousse and Tijan won the opening set 21-16 before their opponents edged the next two sets 22-20 and 15-11.
The Qataris had launched their campaign with a convincing 21-18, 21-14 victory over Latvia’s Ardis Bedritis and Arturs Rinkevics.
Younousse and Tijan will now take on Sweden’s Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson in today’s Round of 16 clash.
